Publicists Advised to Join a Press Club  September 2007

Business owners and publicists seeking to develop stronger relationships with journalists should join a local press club. That’s the advice given to more than 12,000 publicists across the nation by Productive Knowledge co-owner David Niles, via the Publicity Hound’s weekly newsletter.

The Publicity Hound’s Joan Stewart notes that: “Press clubs promote journalism excellence through a variety of programs, activities and monthly meetings. Most members are from the working press, but plenty of PR people also belong.

“David Niles, former editor of the Small Business Times in Milwaukee and a former president of the Milwaukee Press Club, says press club membership is a no-brainer for Publicity Hounds.”

The column details some of the benefits publicists will gain from joining press clubs, including regular access to journalists in relaxed settings.

“Successful publicists are those who have strong relationships with journalists,” Niles says. “Press clubs offer a great way to develop and solidify those relationships.”
